Much of my life has been spent learning how to build things that can withstand pressure.
Businesses.
Financial security.
Knowledge.
Systems.
Relationships.
A family life.
A body of work.
I continue to believe deeply in preparation, competence, responsibility, work, and self-reliance.
But eventually the builder encounters another question:
What holds the person who is carrying the weight?
That question keeps bringing me back to faith.
And increasingly, it brings me back to one distinction:
Being capable is not the same thing as being sufficient.
There is work that is ours to do.
There are people we should protect.
There are problems we should solve.
There are structures worth building.
And there are also things we cannot finally control, repair, earn, guarantee, or completely understand.
A life built to hold has to account for both realities.
